This is a journey of a twenty-something woman from idealistic naivete to spiritual bliss. The journey starts out in January 1999 on the West Coast of Florida with Allie Kramer’s acceptance of a position as a Sales Representative with one of the members of Big Pharma and launching its new Super Drug and extends through the time after her “retirement” from the company and the subsequent recall of the drug.
She had carefully researched and specifically chosen this particular company because of its humanitarian reputation and because of the safety record of their drugs during the long history the company had been in existence. Her goal was to help people while at the same time claiming her financial independence as she embraced adulthood.
Throughout her experience on the “front-line” of the health care industry she is confronted by many controversial topics, including but not limited to, the truth of what goes on in pharmaceutical sales, the uncomfortably close relationship between the government, the FDA, and not only the pharmaceutical industry, but also the major meat companies. Because of a close friend who works in an animal division of another of the “Big Pharma” members, Allie comes face-to-face with the dangers of antibiotic overuse, in general, and specific to the meat industry and the development of Superbugs from antibiotic over-use, and corresponding lackadaisical attitude of the bodies that are to be protecting from these safety hazards.
At the point in her life when she was most in anger, fear, and judgment, Allie is divinely inspired to forgive and find what she knows to be the real solution to the problems she has lived through: each individuals personal accountability for their own experience and the current state of the world.
While uncovering unspeakable things and plotting revenge the characters in the book all ultimately figure out that the government and other oppressive institutions are only the physical manifestations of our own egoic structures being mirrored back to us for the purpose of healing. Each character also figures out that through this accountability comes compassion, non-judgment and unconditional love and they come to understand the power to change the world that comes from living these universal truths.
